Chairs as coat hangers, coins as screwdrivers, everyday we redesign the uses of common objects in order to simplify life. Its called Non Intentional Design, a trait that has helped us humans become who we are. The Future Past stems from the prehistoric practice of recognizing existing forms, functions, materials, and behaviors found in our environments, and reappropriating their uses to suit our needs for survival, comfort, and happiness.
Today, everyday, we misuse the objects which densely engulf our modern environment, redesigning their functions, giving them new purposes. But how will the future look back on these objects, long after they're outdated and disposed of? Perhaps they will be as early dinosaur fossils, incorrectly reconstructed creating that which never existed.
Using the reappropriation of found objects as media, The Future Past, explores this human desire for unconscious creation, and curiosity. Disrupting the familiar patterns we generally associate with the everyday, this installation seeks to alter the way we perceive our environment and our behaviors within. A daydream in the ordinary, reveals itself as something quite unexpected.Fine Arts, Product Design2012 -

This plywood lamp, held together by the tension of its own electric cable, attempts to add visual and functional purpose to the necessity of having to be plugged in. The form, dictated by the unique combination of materials, allows this object to be used in a variety of positions, as seen in the installation.Furniture Design, Industrial Design2012 -
Taking the shoulder straps off and letting the backpack fall at it's hinge (attached to the wearer's waist) transforms the pack into a furniture piece. When finished sitting, the wearer puts the straps back on, as you would with any ordinary backpack, and continues on with their day.

Created for a toy design competition (first place winner). After interviewing 1 st and 3 rdgraders, my team and I set out to make a fully functioning digital animation tablet. We wanted to foster creativity with an easy-to-use handheld device. The Scribble acts like a digital flipbook, by using a touch screen linked to a small computer. The Scribble includes a camera on the top, so an images can be captured and used as frames, or as a base layer for animating over. This prototype has been featured on CNet, Gizmag, Cool Things, and more, as well as discussed on the Wall Street Journal’s This Morning Podcast.Animation, Industrial Design, Toy Design2011 -

This collaborative projects was created under 3 constraints:
We must build a mouse trap which will not kill/harm the animal.
The final product must be created using only 14th century techniques and materials available to Leonardo da Vinci.
Finally the mouse trap should attempt to add an element of "whimsy."Industrial Design, Product Design2012 -
Can mobile communication and advances in communication technologies revitalize the present status of the horse racing industry? This is what a team of students from the Köln International School of Design, and my self attempted to do.
Working with Win Race a Cologne, Germany based horse race betting company, we set out to modernize a historic global pastime. From mobile apps to facebook games. My group (consisting of Tomaz Aquino and myself) was set on creating a more intuitive and exciting TV viewing experience for the masses, including first time watchers of horse races. We incorporated new camera angles, and graphic which are already widely used in the most viewed televised sporting events to give the fast paced sport the documentation it deserves.
(The black and white footage was selectively sourced from the 2003 DreamWorks / Universal Pictures Film Seabiscuit (for educational purposes only) for its style of footage which we would like to see more prominently in televised horse races.)Animation, Branding, Motion Graphics2012 -
